2011 Reading Challenge: Complete

I really pushed myself this year with Goodreads' 2011 Reading Challenge. I set 52 books as my goal. I completed this goal tonight at 9:45 PM. It feels really great to have accomplished this goal. I can't wait to set a new goal for 2012! Check out my widget in the right sidebar to see the books I read this year!

Christmas Getaway

We rented the Old Condon Ranger Station in the Swan Valley for 2 day this Christmas break.
It turned out to be a great time that we will turn into a winter tradition. We drove up Monday afternoon and got settled. Lily and Sara went along as pets are allowed there. Luc and Renata stayed at Grandpa's house.

We relaxed, read and cooked a great dinner. Tuesday we hiked around Holland Lake. There isn't much snow there.

Wednesday we got up late, relaxed and read. Then checked out and headed home. What a peaceful time!

December

December got away from me. Wow! What a busy month. Now that I am on Christmas vacation, I can post some of the projects that I have been working on.

I have finished a few Little Twisters. This one is for me! I just love this Barbara Brackman fabric-Arnold's Attic.

I finished my Big Twister and quilted it myself using the long arm machine at Patchwork Quilts.

Last Christmas I made this wall hanging for my mother-in-law. Then each month I made the insert that snaps onto the hanging. It was fun to complete a small project each month. It was fun to see her excitement each month as well. It has the November insert on right now. It is the last one I finished!

Wool Project

While at the Spokane Quilt Show we found the patterns for these cute wool pins. I made the Thanksgiving one for my mother-in-law!

It was quick and used the little snips of wool I have been saving! I have the Christmas one cut out already!

October Quilts

I have finished binding my Bird quilt. This is a kit I found at the Stitching Post while at the Sisters Quilt Show last summer. I fell in love with it. I finally finished binding it last night!
I got the Big Twister pieced. I was thinking about some borders but can't make up my mind so I will let it sit for a few days!

Big Twister

Since making 2 Little Twisters, I decided I could enlarge the tool and try a Big Twister. I used a Little Apples layer cake and 1 yard of border fabric.

Here it is all cut out. Tonight I will piece it together!
Sorry for the picture quality. I used the camera on my phone.

Little Twister

My friend Robin and I met to quilt yesterday. She had bought this Lil' Twister tool and pattern that make a little quilt with a charm pack and 1/3 yard of fabric. We tried it yesterday. Here is mine! I used an old charm pack called Civil War Front by Barbara Brackman. It was so fun, I whipped out another one, but have to sew it together today.

Now all I need to do is quilt it!

All Women's Race on Saturday

My friend Yvonne asked me to join her and another friend for the All Women's race in Missoula. For this race participants dress up as the race is held on Diva Day sponsored by Community medical Center.
Our team was dubbed The Princesses. Here we are! We had a great time and Yvonne finished her first 5K. Yeah!

Weekend Finishes

I needed to feel the accomplishment of finishing a project, so yesterday I dug around in my quilt room. I found a Pumpkins Gone Wild charm pack and a bit of matching yardage. I started and finished this table topper in one day!

I had 8 charms leftover so I got out the Halloween fabric bin and did this little table topper for my Mother-in-law!

Now that it is fall, I decided I could stand to be under a big quilt for a while and started this binding project.

I also finished 10 more ring sections for my double wedding ring quilt. 60 left to finish.

I enjoyed the feeling of finishing something!

Sewing This Weekend

I got busy sewing again this weekend. I am working on the paper piecing of a Double Wedding Ring quilt.
Here is my progress so far. 90 done!
Here is what I have left to go! 70!
The colors do seem unusual, but the quilt has a dark brown background.

I also tired my first English paper piecing. Here is my little flower. The hexagons are 1 inch size.
I am going to applique this flower onto a tea towel.

Posting, finally!

HI all! I haven't posted for a while. I have been busy maximizing summer. We spent 6 days backpacking through the Bob Marshall Wilderness from south to north 72 miles. Isn't it a beautiful place?
That's my dog Sara cooling off.
Here is the back side of Holland Peak. That a lot of snow for late August!

Now I am back at school. I have been quilting, just no pictures yet! I have bound a quilt and worked on a September calendar insert for my mother-in-law.

Bucket List Hike

We have always said we want to climb Haystack Butte on the Rocky
Mountain Front (east side). Lewis and Clark mention this butte in their journals.

We did it yesterday! What a glorious view!
Having lunch at the top!
This is me starting down!

Friday Night Sew-In Progress

I have been busy working on a Dresden plate quilt for a friend. I have all of the blocks done, but needed to applique the centers on the plates. Last night I was able to complete 3! Here they are! I have one left to go, then I can piece the blocks together and add the borders. Almost done!
